NoiseLetter Spring 2011

The Mekano Set would like to thank the people of Imercia for their generous co-operation and insight into their un-cultural practices.

Hello you,

Well you know, like, we tried to call you but couldn't get a signal, yeah? Look right, we know it's like 4 in the morning yeah, but want to hang? But... Etc.

The end of 2010 / beginning of 2011 we celebrate the release of our first ever EP. Yay. This is the first release from us that doesn't feature guest vocalists or (guest) musicians. It's 100% us.

Thanks to everyone who has bought / listened / commented so far. You can read the full story here:

http://www.mekanoset.net/circle.html

And listen to the songs via Spotify here.

"This cider tastes funny."
"That's not cider, it's bleach."

"The Mekano Set... pall-bearers to the the aftershocks of neo-electro-goth industrial-pop. I'm all up for more darkness this year, especially when it comes dressed as beguilingly as these tracks." Meatbreak's review of the ep: http://nfrblog.blogspot.com/

We think it's fair to say that our web presence is something of an adventure in itself. At almost every site you'll find a different treasure.

A page from The Single

We're steadily working our way through a batch of new mixes. You can find an increasing collection of material exclusively via our bandcamp store: http://themekanoset.bandcamp.com/

Our Facebook page offers regularly updated random nonsense and some amusing spam too: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=87903390807

And we also use our tumblr page to host exclusive free downloads, images and random ramblings: http://themekanoset.tumblr.com/

Also - we're delighted to say that we've just been informed we'll be gigging with Blindness - http://weareblindness.tumblr.com/ - on Saturday 14th March as a fundraiser for the excellent Anarchist venue Cowley Club in Brighton: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=211278272222023

And why not drop on by Lee's blog where you will find colourful details of his own adventures in Imercia http://psdarcy.blogspot.com/

And seeing as we're being charitable, how about you meet us half way and check out the equally amusing Elite Panther Dash - the Official Imercian Running Team for the 2012 Olympics - and all their good charity work.

Dan and Lee, doing it for the kids. Fuck you Bono.

Next up, we've set up a play-list where you can listen to 3 tracks from our forthcoming EP, Glass Keys:

For those of you in the know, we can confirm that we've booked a very appropriate venue for the launch party of The Single. Invitations will be in the post presently.

The Single has been delivered. How to describe it? It's certainly unique.

In the wider world, synth-pop duo This Mono Galaxy have a brand new album out: http://thismonogalaxy.bandcamp.com/album/the-envy-scratch

If you're feeling frisky, you can hear preview tracks from the forthcoming Anarchistwood album: http://garagepunk.ning.com/profile/funkcutter

They also have a new drummer.

Enough for now. Hope this finds you well,

Spring. Feels good. Not just for the pretend-pagans.

Beneath the beach, the pavement.

WHAT HAVE YOU BECOME?

MEK HAS HISTORY

Baritone (and the guitar is too)

Purely for the sake of nostalgia. This is a really early demo of Don't Eat The Sweets. http://themekanoset.tumblr.com/post/3602964253/down-tempo-and-smoky-a-very-different-sounding

It's not even in concert pitch. Same bass and guitar as I use to this day. Natural reverb, acoustic drum kit. Probably recorded at my parent's house under the influence of Lucozade Solstice, very early in the morning while no one was in. No EQ, no compression. I remember people hearing the proper version of this and being disappointed!

You have a history. Don't bury it, celebrate it.
